Sitting in the airport.... Vol. 2

I'm starting to really enjoy this series and I'm only on #2!

I just saw a tall, sort of hygienically-challenged, but has potential to be cute-if he wasn't so slimey looking gentleman in a black suit with a blue collared shirt, walk by my table at macaroni grill in Chicago's O'Hare. Now, I people-watch a lot, and I see some really interesting things. But, this guy definitely caught my attention.

Here he is, walking along (probably to get a seat at this very same restaurant), just happy as can be. Why is he so significant, you ask? Well, he has a very large GAPING hole in his shirt, exposing his entirely too large and really hairy belly-button.

I hardly even noticed that specific and unfortunate malfunction in his wardrobe....what I noticed was his canter, his "hop" in his step, the smile on his face, and the determination in which he did all of those things. I feel for him so badly. In a few minutes, someone is going to laugh at him, or point and giggle, or maybe even call his attention to it. THAT moment is why my heart goes out to him. He is going to be so ashamed of not only not noticing the problem, but of his hairly and overly large bell-button. Poor fella.

From there my mind went on and on. What if this guy dresses like this all the time and no one tells him? What if he has a wife that always says, "Oh well, I love him for who he is..."? What if he owns his own company and is about to sit down with an interviewee. What if he's like, the dirty kid in class and just doesn't care? Hmmm...

K-time to eat. Signing off now...from O'Hare.

Sitting in the airport... Vol. 1

Why do people hug out of obligation? The horrible thing is that it is just so obvious. Two people share in such an awkward embrace initiated by the one who is just a tad bit more motivated, and then what to do?! Stand and look at each other. Weird. I say, forget the hugs unless you love that person. Hugs are so personal, in my opinion.

My favorite hugs, especially in airports, are when someone is waiting at baggage claim for family or an awesome friend. The best is when the best friend or family member sneaks up and surprises the "waitee". The hug that follows that experience is one that music and movies should be inspired by. Maybe I like these hugs, because I'm always just excited to get my bags and get in the freaking cab, and not getting any hugs like that. They are so fabulous to watch, I wonder what they actually feel like!! I bet it's awesome!!

I've got to sign off now... Leaving Epley Airfield in Omaha, NE. Be home in a few hours. I like these little airport and travel thoughts...I think I might have to do these often.

Lindy and Golf?! Really?!

HAHAHAHA - YEAH. Lindy is not a golfer. However, Lindy turned out to be pretty good at the driving range! Enough of the third-person-talk. So - I was recently at a project in Southern New Jersey, close to Atlantic City. Yes, I was there awhile ago, meaning....like 2 weeks ago. Seems like FOREVER ago, but I'm still catching up. Anyway - this place was AWESOME. Lots of secret passage ways, ghost stories, etc. VERY neat. I swear it was part of the mob/bootlegging world. Rumor has it that women and African Americans have basically just been able to be on the property in the last 20 years. Jeesh. But - with stories of the Jersey Devil all over the place, it was hard not to really fall in love with the mysterious history of the place. BUT - it was a golf resort, and I happened to be onsite with someone who really liked to golf. Since I was working overnight on that project, I told the guy I'd go golf with him if he would get up at the ass-crack of dawn and go when I got off work at about 8am. And - as long as he was okay with being beaten by a girl!! If you're wondering - Yes, we were able to turn the driving range into a competition. It was a little embarrassing, as this is a PGA golf course, having people all the way from Walter Hagan to Annika Sorenstamm (sp?) winning there. BUT - we went early enough, it wasn't too embarrassing.

ANYWAY - crazy day, so I'm rambling - I managed to keep pretty even with the guy...and he golfs all the time. I look like a complete IDIOT, but at least I wasn't terrible. Next day?! Yes - I could barely move!! But - that's not the point. Now - I would post a video of me golfing, but the video was taken vertically on my camera, and I have NO CLUE how to make it horizontal. If anyone knows, lemme know. I don't have time to research it.

Here are some random pics from NJ though. I did like the place, but was pretty busy - so not a great selection. For all those golfers out there - how's my form?!

If you look closely - there is a mini door, in the middle of the wall. Weird. This is in the back office of the front desk!! I opened it one day and there is an actual running machine in a creepy room back there. I almost climbed through, but was afraid of some sort of ghost attack!!

Ho Hum....

Can't seem to really catch up lately.... I'm backed up on my blogging, haven't gotten ahold of my grandma in the past couple weeks (I call her every Sunday, at least I try to. I've been able to do that, but I haven't reached her and keep forgetting to call her back), there is a stack of companies that I still haven't called to change my address since I moved, I haven't even had time to study the places I'm going lately....no time, no time. I hate not feeling right, prepared and on time.

I'm on another streak of craziness. Got home at 11p tonight, ran to walmart to replenish my sundry-normals that I travel with...and my cab is picking me up at 1:30 tomorrow for my flight to Omaha. I'll be working in Columbus, NE.....it's probably the size of my home town! No big deal, but there are no five-stars in those towns, if you are smellin what I'm steppin in!! Not that I want five-star hotels all the time, but I just really don't want bed bugs again! Bed bugs, fast food, no sleep, four planes a week, sick all the time....... Why am I doing this to myself?! Is it really worth it?! Does anyone know anyone that could be my sugar daddy??? I need a year off to recover.

Things I miss the most:
* driving....for hours
* having a desk
* having a home
* seeing people I know every day
* weekends
* pizzas out of a box
* movies....a whole day of movies
* knowing where I am on a map
* last, but certainly not least, being able to see the people I love whenever I want

Thanks for listening! Time for me to sleep. More soon....still have more pics to post.

Menlo Park, CA

Menlo Park, home of Stanford University, was my home a few weeks ago. Funny....it feels like months. I got to work with someone I hadn't seen in awhile. We went through a training together about 6 months ago, and he was actually one of the first people I ever met with this company. He was on the very first hotel project that I was on....it was fun to see him again and hang out with someone I know and like! Anyway - other than that, I really don't remember much from this property. It was a good time, just seems like so long ago! Here are some pictures from that trip....

Ben scared the crap out of me a few times....it was dark. Shut up.

Front of the hotel - it was such a pretty place.... Had a really nice room too!

The butter was a little chilly at dinner. Thought I'd try and warm it up a little...with the fancy mood candle. My co-worker took this of me, without me really knowing! I was really set on eating some of that butter on my bread!!

Annapolis Visit...

After Daytona, I was able to visit my family in Annapolis, MD. It was so great to see my brother Mitch, along with his wife Debbie and their B-E-A-UTIFUL baby Emily. Here are some highlights!! The image above this paragraph was pretty funny - I was holding her and just held the camera out, said "SMILE" and this is what happened! She's SO fun!

We planned a day out....Mitch and Emily managed to fall asleep in the two minutes it took Debbie and I to get ready!!

Emily is now 6 months old. I had the opportunity to spend a week with them in Annapolis. Though I was working from their house during the day - I got to hang out with them in the evenings. Mitch had to go to Boston for work a few days during the week, so I think it helped a little that I was there. Plus, poor Debbie got pretty sick during those few days. Emily had been running a fever and had a cold since a few days before I arrived. She was still a little sick when I left. Poor thing. Glad I was there to help out..... Can't wait to see them again soon on our upcoming vacation together.

Below are a couple of videos. The first one shows how friggin happy she really is.

In this next video, I definitely "pulled a Lindy". Mitch is feeding her peas, which she HATES!! But, I manage to say, "I still have *pea* in my mouth!" Ugh....classy.

Mornings in Daytona Beach (awhile ago....I'm catching up)

My mornings in Daytona. I'm not a huge fan of the city - but it's pretty peaceful when no one is around at about 5am. I was just getting off of a 10 hour work day when I took these....nice way to end the day.

Finally...

I'm finally going to sleep for the first time since five hours before my last post........... For those of you that wish you had my job - think about that for a minute. Since I've gone to sleep last:

*I almost died in a town car on the way to the airport
*I saw four people in the airport with face masks on
*I saw an emergency medical incident on an airplane
*I flew across the country in the very back of a plane with less than two inches of room for my knees
*I drove from North New Jersey to South New Jersey
*I learned what "Bennies" and "Shoobies" are
*I learned that people from New Jersey don't really do drive-thru places on interstates. They get off the interstate, park at a rest-stop-type-thing, get out of the car and walk into a food court that is stored in a pole barn.
*BUT - I learned that they don't get out of their cars to pump their own gas
*I checked into a huge and beautiful hotel that is reportedly haunted and was a big part of the mob in Atlantic city
*I saw the skyline of Atlantic City
*I had a Cobb salad while cracking up laughing over a meal
*I stubbed my toe on the night stand in my room.

Can't wait to see what happens during the next period of time I'm awake!! Good night, finally.

Message from the road...

The butter was frozen at dinner tonight... I tried to warm it up, country style, using the fancy candle. Oh, how I love hotel restaurants!

Here's my story for today.... I will leave in a black town car at 6:30am PST, arrive at San Francisco airport at around 7:15. I fly out of San Fran at 8:40. Land in Newark at 5:30pm EST, drive at least two hours and arrive at my next project at around 8pm. And - if I have to work that night, I will then start working at 11pm, and work until 7am on Saturday morning. The sad thing is: I am already tired!! More later.... Lindy Sent from my PDA Device

Blogging from my phone...

Let's see if this works, shall we?! If it does, be aware that I will turn into a blogging fool!!

The BEST meal I've had in a long time!! Even though it hurt pretty bad...that's a TON of food!!

** PS. The picture didn't make it onto my blog from my phone, so I had to come in and Edit it. SO - pics might not get to make it in here from my phone, unless I can figure it out!!
